The tales of the long distance runner has been a thing to this blogger. Besides being an avid sports and pro wrestling fan, running has been a part of life.
It all began with being cut from the high school basketball team because of not being good enough. Thanks to running the fastest mile in physical education class, the journey began.
For numerous years, this runner was fortunate in getting through races without serious injury. Whether it was a one mile run on the track or a 50 kilometer on country roads, I was fortunate to get through it.
In 2022, the injuries began and it was with the knees. This runner had surgery on one of them when tearing an ACL during a pickup basketball game in high school. Because of determination, the recovery was 100% and would go on until today. Now, the left knee is the issue. Each time, there would be backing off, and then coming back. There have been a couple of falls.
The last race I did was the 2024 Bay To Breakers. It was jog - walk- jog - walk. Was able to get through it okay.
However, during a training run in February this year, another fall. And then, not running in my favorite race. At that point, it was time to retire and delete the running blog that I had.
Yet, a number of people have messaged, seen this blogger at his favorite cafe and in the neighborhood. They've encouraged me to reconsider. Honestly, this runner doesn't want to go out the way he did. The 1300+ races and 99,000+ total miles on the body wants to go on a little longer. The question now is whether the mind and body are willing. The mind is for certain.
On September 7th, two days before my visit to Southeast Asia, I've decided to take part in a 5K with the Dolphin South End Runners. It's a hilly trail run. The club has a self time situation in which runners/walkers can do the course before the starting time of the event. That is the plan.
Hopefully, this will be the comeback. In the meantime, will do a little training and post some past stories that the readers will remember.
